Growing up just outside Arlington, SD on a generational family farm, I learned the value of hard work, determination and the importance of taking responsibility seriously.
As a teen, I grew curious about progress, about learning new ways to farm, taking advantage of modern tools, new knowledge and changing taste, so I left the farm and enrolled in college at South Dakota State University to study agronomy. I didn't just want to farm, I wanted to be a part of shaping farms of the future.
As a young adult, I became a research scientist. I worked on new ideas for improving corn production, sustainability and plant biology. I helped create new varieties and products to improve and modernize farming.
After time, I felt curious again, curious as to what I could to do if I brought my new wisdom back to my own family farm. I then joined my father and together we revolutionized our own brand of farming.
Now, It's happening again, time to grow, to change, to employ my new wisdom to something new, to create something old into something new again.
I've been a lot of things in my life and in each role I've learned invaluable lessons that challenged my perspective and those new ideas made me better, more curious, it made me want better, it drove me to create opportunities for others to experience the world through a new lens.
As a farmer I learned family values, hard work, and responsibility. As a scientist, I learned process, discovery, and repeatability and finally, now, I find myself becoming an artist, where each day I'm learning new tools for self expression, creating engaging experiences, and bringing all that together into my favorite season of life yet - bringing joy and surprise to my audience through my wine.
